Troop 18 is open to boys and girls ages 11 to 17 (or age 10 if they have completed either Arrow of Light or 5th Grade). 

Our Troop is a Scout-led troop.  In Scouts, the youth are the ones who are in charge.  The Scouts elect their own leaders who form the Patrol Leader Council (PLC) that creates the yearly agenda.  The Scouts work together on every issue, from planning weekly meetings and camping trips, and what to eat at camp, to deciding who will wash dishes and shop for the food.  They learn and put into practice communication, public speaking, teamwork, conflict resolution, and leadership. The role of the adults is to provide advice and guide them to help bring their ideas for adventure into reality.  

There are over 135 merit badges in the BSA program.  In completing some of the various merit badges the Scouts gain exposure to areas of interest ranging from Rifle Shooting to Chemistry, from Small Boat Sailing to Aviation, and from Reading to Nuclear Science.  The Merit Badges help Scouts try things they may never had a chance to do if not for the Scouting experience such as Horsemanship, Welding, Canoeing, and Sailing.

• Youth - The total fee for 2026 is $260, of which $160 is paid directly online to Western Los Angeles County Council (WLACC), and the remaining $100 for annual troop dues is paid directly to our troop. To register, click here to pay the $160 Scout Council 2026 Youth Registration fee. The $100 annual troop dues are paid directly to the troop either via check, cash, Zelle, or Venmo.

• Adults - Click here to pay the $80 Western Los Angeles County Council (WLACC) 2026 Adult Registration fee.  Adults need to complete the CA Mandated Reporter Training and Youth Protection Training  (YPT), then email their completed certificate to adriana.delgado@scouting.org and schedule an appointment to have their fingerprints taken at the Western Los Angeles County Council (WLACC) office at 16525 Sherman Way, Van Nuys, CA if not completed already.  

The class "A" uniform, which includes the shirt with WLACC patch, pants, socks, belt, hat, slide, and scout handbook with cover, can be purchased at the Valley Scout Shop.

Please contact our Scoutmaster to purchase the same.  At the Scouts induction, we will provide the Troop 18 neckerchief and class "B" t-shirt to the Scout.  Our troop also has Troop 18 hoodies for $40 and t-shirts for $20 for scouts and parents, if you would like to purchase.
