Troop 18 is open to boys and girls ages 11 to 17 (or age 10 if they have completed either Arrow of Light or 5th Grade). 

Our Troop is a Scout-led troop.  In Scouts, the youth are the ones who are in charge.  The Scouts elect their own leaders who form the Patrol Leader Council (PLC) that creates the yearly agenda.  The Scouts work together on every issue, from planning weekly meetings and camping trips, and what to eat at camp, to deciding who will wash dishes and shop for the food.  They learn and put into practice communication, public speaking, teamwork, conflict resolution, and leadership. The role of the adults is to provide advice and guide them to help bring their ideas for adventure into reality.  

There are over 135 merit badges in the BSA program.  In completing some of the various merit badges the Scouts gain exposure to areas of interest ranging from Rifle Shooting to Chemistry, from Small Boat Sailing to Aviation, and from Reading to Nuclear Science.  The Merit Badges help Scouts try things they may never had a chance to do if not for the Scouting experience such as Horsemanship, Welding, Canoeing, and Sailing.

• New Scouts are welcome to join Troop 18 at any time.  

• Returning Scouts will receive an email notification when it is time to renew their membership with the Western Los Angeles County Council (WLACC). Members can pay by using the link in the Council email or by calling the WLACC office at 818-785-8700 to pay over the phone. Troop 18 annual dues are collected each year in January.

  • • Youth - The total annual fee is $260. 

      • • • $160 Youth Registration fee is paid directly online to Scouting America. Register for T18 Boys HERE and for T18 Girls HERE.  

            • • $85 goes to National Scouting America

              • $75 goes to our local Council

          • $100 annual Troop 18 dues. 

            • • The Troop 18 annual dues cover January through December. Scouts who join during the year will pay prorated dues based on their join date. Troop dues help fund rank advancement badges and pins, merit badges, propane and troop cooking supplies, troop camping and outdoor program equipment.

              • Troop dues can be paid at a Wednesday Troop 18 meeting or by Zelle/Venmo.

              • • Complete the CA Mandated Reporter Training 

                • Complete Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT), then email their completed certificate to adriana.delgado@scouting.org

                • Schedule an appointment to have fingerprints taken at the WLACC office located at 16525 Sherman Way, Van Nuys, CA, if fingerprinting has not already been completed.
