Tomorrow night (December 1st) is not a regular Troop 18 meeting. The Green Patrol will meet as usual though. In fact this is a very important GP meeting because we have an outside speaker doing a presentation on drug and alcohol awareness, and that is difficult to “make-up”.

However, we will have our first “MB Amnesty Night” tomorrow night. It is a move designed to put a real emphasis on attending the MB classes and minimizing “make-up” work for both the instructors and the students. Older Scouts who missed a class for the 3 MB’s that were taught on Monday nights this Fall (Cit Wo, Communi, and PSpeak) may present their make-up work for the MB counselors to review and sign off on. Scouts must plan ahead and be prepared. For Cit Wo, the scouts are not coming tomorrow night to have the 60 minute presentation that they missed, but will be there to work through the test that they missed and maybe engage their counselors in a conversation about a point or two where they are confused despite their preparation at home. For Communi and PSpeak, there may be some speeches to do.

This weekend we will be Camping at Twin Lakes near Florence. The GP will be busy with a lot of advancement work, and the older scouts will work on Communi MB completion with a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Friday Night. Right now the campout is scheduled for Friday afternoon through Sunday morning, but this is a busy time of year and we may return on Saturday evening. Details will follow. We will be camping and cooking by Patrol, and the GP will plan their Menu on Monday night. Older scouts need to contact their Patrol Leader for information on menu plans and grocery acquisition.

Please RSVP by an email to me by Wednesday 8pm for this weekend’s campout. I need a good list of Dads and Scouts so I can let the folks at Twin Lakes know in advance.

Requirement to work on for next meeting

C4 – Interview someone you know fairly well, like, or respect because of his or her position, talent, career or life experiences. Listen actively to learn as much as you can about the person. Then prepare and deliver to your counselor an introduction of the person as though this person were to be a guest speaker, and include reasons why the audience would want to hear this person speak. Show how you would call to invite this person to speak

C7 – Write to the editor of a magazine or your local newspaper to express your opinion or share information on any subject you choose. Send your message by fax, email or regular mail.

We will meet at our regular time on Monday in order for the scouts to give their introductions and turn in their letters to the editors. We should also have some time in class to work on the letter to the editor but the scout should have an idea of the opinion or topic that they are going to write about.

Also on Tuesday November 18, 2008 we will meet at the scout room at 5:15 in order to go to the Jackson City Council Meeting. Parents will need to pick the scouts up at the church at 7:30. They will need to wear a full Class A uniform.
