Beaver Patrol Campout
On the weekend of April 24 – 25 the Beaver Patrol (all 6th graders). We will be camping on the grounds of Phillip Parker’s country estate just west of Starkville, MS. Weekend activities will include a tour of the vet school at Mississippi State. The boys will also work on the Veterinary Science, Shotgun Shooting and Riflery merit badges. There will be a fee to cover the cost of targets and shotgun shells. If time permits, they may also be able to fish and swim. Dads who chose to attend will have five star accommodations in Parker Manor. If you plan to attend, please send an email to Phillip at pparker@parkcpa.com by Wednesday April 15. Once we have a list of participants, we’ll send you another email with
further details.
This is a reminder that the deadline to sign up for the Beaver Patrol (6th Grade) campout is tomorrow. So far Peyton Parker, Rhodes Skelton, Gene Wood, Holt Crews, Alex Russell, Daniel Teh and Sam Berry are signed up. Also, because we couldn’t get a Saturday tour of the Vet School lined up, we will no longer be working on the Veterinary Medicine merit badge. However, scouts will earn the Shotgun Shooting and Riflery merit badges and there should be time for fishing and swimming.
Could you please forward the following to the 6th grade scouts about the upcoming campout in Starkville?
We will leave from the parking lot on the Belhaven Street side of the school at 4:00 on Friday. We will be camping at Debbie’s parents cabin just west of Starkville on Highway 82. We will return to Belhaven College parking lot on Sunday at 12:00. Scouts will be in tents. Dads are welcome to stay in the cabins.
We will be working on several merit badges this weekend. (Shotgun Shooting, Rifle Shooting and Fly Fishing). Jeff Skelton and I have purchased all the shells, clay pigeons, targets and ear protection that will be needed. Therefore, the cost of the campout before the meal cost is $25.00/scout. Please give the money to Jeff Skelton or me in the parking lot on Friday before we leave.
There is a lake that the scouts will be able to go fishing in so they need to bring their fishing equipment if they want to fish. I have only bass fished in the lake but it was stocked several years ago with bream but no one has every fished for bream that I know.
The following scouts are in charge of purchasing the food for all scouts on the campout (15 Scouts signed up) – Holt Crews and Carl Upton. The scouts will be cooking breakfast, lunch and supper on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. Please keep the receipts so that we can collect money from all scouts on the campout. Scout will need to bring a sandwich for Friday night supper.
